Okuma Thermal Control

Thermal Control Technology For Higher Accuracy

The Thermo-Friendly Concept has achieved remarkable accuracy stability, with machining dimensional changes of less than 8 μm even when the factory room temperature changes by 8 deg C.

Metals expand and contract due to heat as well as different expansion coefficients depending on the material. Machine tools, which are mainly made of steel or cast metal, expand by 1/100th of a millimetre per meter for a temperature rise of 1 deg C.

The heat generated by the spindle and peripheral equipment during machining causes the machine body to expand. Also, temperature changes in the factory deform the orientation of the machine, affecting machining accuracy.
