Sheet Metal Processing On The Path To Industry 4.0

CEO & Co-Founder of Stuttgart-based Optimate, Jonas Steiling (JS) discusses feasibility analysis, part optimisation and the sustainable support of the digitisation process in sheet metal processing.

Founded in mid-2020 as a start-up based in Stuttgart, Optimate GmbH originated from an internal innovation program at TRUMPF. The founders have years of experience in sheet metal processing and have incorporated this expertise into a digital solution for part optimisation.

In addition to manufacturers and contract manufacturers, web stores and online marketplaces also use the cloud solution for analysing and optimising sheet metal parts. JS shares on the effectiveness of digitising sheet metal processing.

Q: What Does Optimate Has To Offer The Sheet Metal Processing Sector On The Path To Industry 4.0 And Smart Factory?

JS: In one sentence: a cloud-based solution for analysing and optimising sheet metal parts with the aim of improving design plans and reducing costs.

Q: How Would You Describe Your Approach?

JS: The designer plays a major role in determining a product’s manufacturing costs. With this in mind, we want to be involved as early as possible in the product development process and provide support during the design phase. The primary goal is always to ensure a part’s process reliability. In other words: What use is it, if the entire production process is optimised and automated regarding Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory, but the parts cannot be manufactured?
