Electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly adopted around the world and governments are active in aiding the transition from internal combustion engine vehicles. Let’s explore the heart of an EV ⎯ the battery, its technology and its afterlife.

About 145 million EVs are expected to hit the roads in 2030, a massive jump from 10 million in 2020, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). EV batteries will be in high demand over the next decade, as car manufacturers boost production and the carbon neutrality era draws nearer.
However, electric vehicles still account for a small slice of the automotive market, as around only nine percent of new cars sold in 2021 worldwide were electric. The electric vehicle car sales saw an increase from 2.5 percent in 2019, according to IEA.
This growth could boom in 2022 with the Ukraine crisis surging oil prices and many other disruptions within the automotive industry that encourages car owners and manufacturers to shift towards an all-electric future.
